Del Sol comes from the mountains of Urrao, in southwestern Antioquia, a region surrounded by high peaks, páramos and some of Colombia’s most impressive landscapes. Coffee grows here between 1,000 and 2,000 metres above sea level, in rich volcanic soils and cool mountain conditions that allow the cherries to mature slowly and develop plenty of sweetness.

This special selection comes from Nelson Urrego and his family, second-generation coffee growers from the village of San Carlos, Urrao. On their farm, Granito de Oro, they grow traditional Colombian varieties alongside specialty coffees such as Caturra Chiroso, a variety that has become increasingly recognized in the region for its body, sweetness, fruitiness and balanced acidity.

For Del Sol, the cherries are carefully hand-picked and washed after an extended 80-hour fermentation. Lightly roasted to preserve its delicate character, the coffee has a floral and elegant cup, with notes of rosehip, mint and grape. It’s fresh and expressive, with a lively acidity and a clean finish that lets the character of the Chiroso shine through.

We called it Del Sol because there is something about Urrao that makes the name feel right. Between the mountains and páramos, the landscape opens up to the light, and this coffee carries a little of that feeling in the cup.
